Canal Boat Retreat

Lindsay is interested in running a retreat for a small number of people aboard a narrowboat. Would you like to join him? This would take place sometime next year on a canal somewhere in England (sorry to be so vague). Lindsay is only after expressions of interest at this stage. So, if you are interested, put on your most inquisitive expression and contact him (facial expressions unnecessary if you are going to do it by email or phone).

Movie Club

The next session of Movie Club will be held on Tuesday 3rd September. The film we’ll be watching will be Pride, a 2014 British LGBT-related historical comedy drama written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Matthew Warchus. Based on a true story, the film depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners campaign. The alliance was unlike any seen before and was ultimately successful. It was screened as part of the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm award. The film was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, and for the BAFTA for Best British Film, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Imelda Staunton, and for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. If you would like to borrow a copy of the film prior to the discussion evening, please contact Cris or Jeanette.

Thy Kingdom Come
May

Thy Kingdom Come

We would like to encourage everybody to take part in this year’s Thy Kingdom Come, which runs from the 31st May to the 8th June (Ascension Friday to Pentecost). Thy Kingdom Come is an exciting worldwide initiative which invites us to turn our longing for a better world into time with God. On each of the days we pray that God’s will may be done in our world, in the lives of those we care about, and in our own lives. We pray too that others will know God and Jesus Christ whom God has sent. There will be three twenty-minute prayer times on each of the days of Thy Kingdom Come (except on Sunday 2nd June): at 7am, noon, and 8.30pm. Each of the prayer times will be accompanied by optional food: i.e croissants and coffee in the morning; soup and a roll at lunchtime; and hot chocolate in the evening. Do come along and try something different! To find out more contact Cris, Jeanette or Lindsay.
