Retreat at The Oast Houses

We’ve booked the Oast Houses Christian Retreat Centre at Northiam for a weekend retreat (11th-13th October) led by Bishop John Pritchard. John was formerly Archdeacon of Canterbury, Bishop of Jarrow and then Bishop of Oxford. He is the author of many books on prayer and spirituality. The cost will be £175. We have eight places left! Contact Karen Edgar to secure a place. At the retreat we will reflect on the Jesus who is the centrepiece of our faith. Jesus remains an enigmatic stranger to many of us, a figure of mystery. Who is this Jesus? What did he really say and do? What does it mean to follow him now? We will explore this in a variety of ways, including talks, discussion, art, poetry and music.

Movie Club

The next session of Movie Club will be held on Tuesday 3rd September. The film we’ll be watching will be Pride, a 2014 British LGBT-related historical comedy drama written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Matthew Warchus. Based on a true story, the film depicts a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike in 1984, at the outset of what would become the Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners campaign. The alliance was unlike any seen before and was ultimately successful. It was screened as part of the Directors’ Fortnight section of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Queer Palm award. The film was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, and for the BAFTA for Best British Film, Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Imelda Staunton, and for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. If you would like to borrow a copy of the film prior to the discussion evening, please contact Cris or Jeanette.
